
Guidelines and Rules
The International Classics Olympiad consists of two rounds: the Regional Essay Competition and the International Essay Competition.
Regional Round

Regions are broken up into the following:

East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania

Europe, Russia, and Central Asia

Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa

South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean

North America
Submission Format​

The Olympiad begins when participants are sent 3 questions of which they will choose one to answer.

After the participant chooses which question(s) to answer, the response cannot exceed 1000 words, and must be in PDF form.

An MLA style bibliography citing their sources, must be at the the bottom of the participants response to the question.

Evaluation Criteria:
Depth of understanding
Show us how well you understand the annals of mythology by illuminating the depth of richness the classics have to offer.
Clarity in Articulation
Be clear and concise in your explanation​. Articulate your discovery and make a strong case for it. You may lose points for a weakly substantiated argument.
Purposeness of text
Ensure every sentence contributes meaningfully to your essay. Meaningful articulation comes with a solid grasp on the nature and nuance of mythology.
Creativity and personal touch
The classics are a very human field of study, add your own personal touch and give your essay your own rich insight.
International Round
For the International Classics Olympiad, the first place finalist from each region will be sent the international round question(s) and they will have 7 days to answer and submit their work.
The word count cannot go beyond 1500 words.

Winners:
Top three finalists will receive college consulting credit, be published on our website, and letters of recommendation. See our Prizes page for more details.
Anti-Plagiarism Policy
DO NOT CHEAT
At the International Classics Olympiad we have a ZERO tolerance policy towards plagiarism. No submission with any amount of plagiarism or cheating will be accepted.
Each participant is responsible for creating their own individual work for the competition. Each submission will be entered through plagiarism software and any works deemed plagiarized will automatically be disqualified.
